The Crossing at Big Creek, also known as Center Stage Bingo, is disheartened that the Wiregrass was again left out of Alabama’s economic plan in Senate Bill 214. The Wiregrass area is consistently overlooked by state leaders when it comes to economic development projects.

Based on economic projections from feasibility studies, omitting the Wiregrass from this legislation will cost Houston County 3-5 million dollars in additional tax revenue each year. In addition, the Wiregrass will lose the opportunity to add 1200 direct jobs and 5000 indirect jobs over a 5-year span. Unlike most of the locations included in the current legislation, significant infrastructure exists here in the Wiregrass to allow for the creation of a true destination location with lodging, concert venues and theater venues in addition to gaming.

We are working diligently with our local delegation to secure an amendment that would include the Wiregrass in Senate Bill 214. Our area is uniquely located in the southeast corner of Alabama, far away from other proposed locations. By being included in this Bill, the Wiregrass would pull in out-of-state dollars from Florida and Georgia, as well as other states that flow through this corridor on the way to the beaches each year.

We urge all Wiregrass residents to contact their local state representatives and Governor Ivey to demand that the Wiregrass be included in this important legislation for economic growth. It’s official, we are re-opening our 2020/21 season!

Centerstage would like to first thank you all for your patience as we waited out the worst of the pandemic. Now that Washington has hit Phase 2, we feel comfortable and confident about completing our season. We are so excited to get back to producing live theatre!
